Day One: Belize International Airport to San Ignacio, Cayo District, Belize
On arrival into Belize City, Belize, after clearing customs, immigrations and collecting your luggage, you will make your way outside for your road transfer. You will be met by a local representative and transferred by road to Ka’ana Luxury Boutique Hotel in the Cayo District (approximate transfer time: 2.5 hrs). On arrival at Ka’ana you will be greeted with a welcome drink, property tour and wine cellar orientation. Enjoy four nights at Ka’ana Boutique Resort in a One Bedroom Villa inclusive of breakfast.
Day Two: San Ignacio, Cayo District, Belize
This morning after breakfast you will meet your guide for your full-day tour of ATM Cave. After a fun day exploring the Mayan underworld you will return to Ka’ana for a star-filled evening.
ATM Cave – Actun Tunichil Muknal, better known (and pronounced) as the ATM Cave, is quite possibly one of Belize’s most popular and sought-after visitor attractions. ATM Cave is located on the Caves Branch River in the foothills of the Maya Mountains in central Belize. During the river’s run through the jungle, it encounters numerous limestone hills. Rather than flowing around these obstructions, it plunges through them in a wonderful series of caves – some of which are two miles long! Like other caves, ATM will reveal hundreds of ancient Maya artifacts and carvings. However, what’s unique about ATM Cave is the full skeletal remain that is still intact after thousands of years.
Day Three: San Ignacio, Cayo District, Belize
This morning after breakfast you will meet your guide for your half-day tour of Xunantunich. Consider adding a scenic horseback ride along the Mopan river on your return to Ka’ana. This afternoon enjoy your afternoon at leisure.
Xunantunich Ruins – Located nearly two hours west of Belize City, Xunantunich is one of Belize’s most visited ruins (much of which is still being discovered). The main ceremonial center is located on a natural limestone ridge, giving even more height to the 135-feet high El Castillo, a temple decorated with an ornate stucco frieze. An easy walk to the top (on wide steps and a path) provides a panoramic view of both Belize and Guatemala. Getting to Xunantunich is fun as you cross the Mopan River on a hand-operated ferry that can carry only one vehicle at a time.
Day Four: San Ignacio, Cayo District, Belize
This morning after breakfast you will meet your guide for your Cave Tubing tour. After a fun day exploring floating down a jungle river you will return to Ka’ana for an enjoyable evening at the hotel.
Cave Tubing – One of the most intriguing (and somewhat relaxing) ways to experience many caves is by cave tubing. Visitors rely on their inner tubes to take them back into ancient times by floating downstream through cave passages. Along the route, guides will share geology and Maya history of the limestone surroundings. Many tours explore different passages, with some of the caves forming natural swimming pools of clear blue water – a serene place for a swim. Want an added twist to the cave tubing experience? Add a fun zipline excursion to your tour.
Day Five: Cayo District to Ambergris Caye, Belize
This morning after breakfast and checkout you will be transferred by road in a shared vehicle to Belize Airport (approximate transfer time: 2.5 hours). On arrival at Belize Airport, check in for your light aircraft transfer (Cessna Caravan) to San Pedro (approximate flight time: 15 minutes).
Ambergris Caye – Ambergris Caye is a warm, sunny island close to the mainland of Belize. It’s the largest of the cayes (25 miles long) and offers first class hotels and many water related activities such as diving, snorkeling, kayaking, fishing and much more. The largest town on the caye is San Pedro. And while the town is booming with world-class beach resorts, the laidback atmosphere and charm is hard to deny (cobble stone roads, casual attire, beachside cafes and more). Though visitors are attracted to the beaches of Ambergris from all over the world, the island never feels overcrowded. So, vacationers looking to enjoy the culture and everyday life of a Caribbean beach town, won’t have to sacrifice the little bit of “peace and quiet” they’ve probably come to also relish. Golf cart is the preferred mode of transportation around the island.
On arrival into San Pedro you will be met by a hotel representative and transferred by road to Victoria House (approximate transfer time: 10-15 minutes). On arrival at Victoria House you can settle into your Beachfront Casita where you will spend three nights.
Day Six: Ambergris Caye, Belize
This morning after breakfast you will embark on a snorkeling tour to the famous Hol Chan Marine Reserve.
Hol Chan Marine Reserve – Off the southern tip of Ambergris Caye is Belize’s oldest marine reserve – the Hol Chan Marine Reserve. Hol Chan (Mayan for “little channel”) revolves around a cut through the reef, which is more than 25 yards wide and 30 feet deep. The reserve is home to hundreds of colorful fish species, several kinds of rays and beautiful coral formations. Local fishermen used to come to Shark Ray Alley to clean their catch and their discards would attract hungry nurse sharks and southern rays. As a result these predators have long become accustomed to boats, which now bring snorkelers instead of fishers. Shark Ray Alley is the top snorkeling destination in Hol Chan Marine Reserve.
Day Seven: Ambergris Caye, Belize
Wake up and after breakfast enjoy complimentary use off sea kayaks so you can explore the Caribbean at your own time and pace. Spend a leisurely afternoon enjoying the beach and hotel pool. Consider taking a water taxi into San Pedro for some tasty Belizean food and music.
Day Eight: Depart Belize
This morning after hotel check out you will be transferred by boat/road to San Pedro Airport (approximate transfer time: 10-15 minutes). Depart on your scheduled flight to Belize City (approximate flight time: 15 minutes). On arrival into Belize you will check in for your commercial flight home (international flights are not included in the package price and can be quoted separately).
